Apparat live @ Utrecht meets Berlin Tivoli de Helling

Utrecht meets Berlin groot succes!

Utrecht meets Berlin november 2009

Born Digital? - Art, life, games and technology

Curated by "Institute of Algorhythmics (Berlin)"
with Tim Horntrich, Akitoshi Honda & Shintaro Miyazaki and Wolfgang Spahn & Thomas Gerwin

Life and technology always played a role in our history. The myths about Golems, artificial humans, can be dated back to the middle age. In the 18th century Jacques de Vaucanson made complex machines who imitated humans or animals like the "Mechanic Fluteplayer" (1737) or his "Mechanic Duck" (1738).

The exhibition "born digital? - art, life, games and technology" reflect this classical subject of life versus technology in our post digital age and questions the real meaning of being digitally born.

Rosa Menkman

Every technology has its own accidents. Rosa Menkman is a Dutch visualist who focuses on visual artifacts created by accidents in digital media. The visuals she makes are the result of glitches, compressions, feedback and noise. Although many people perceive these accidents as negative experiences, Rosa emphasizes their positive consequences.
By combining both her practical as well as an academic background, she merges her abstract pieces within a grand theory artifacts (a glitch studies), in which she strives for new forms of conceptual synesthesia.

For this research they combine theory and practise through quick prototyping principles, ideas and hypothesizes are tested in practical setups and projects. In these projects they look at three aspects; person, proces and product. On Niemandsland the research group will show their performace engine, which is based on wii-motes, camera's and motion.
